Gary's Key Points on why travel is good for relationships...
- Fear emanates from stories we tell ourselves which have very little to do with the truth but have more of a resonance and what we perceive will be harmful to us.
- We react to two basic things. One is to protect the things we have and the other is to prevent places to go that may cause fear.
- We have to acknowledge the fear we have. Get to the core of why we feel that way. Then acknowledged the fears or anxieties. What is it about the issue that is fearful to us. Then confront it and break it down. Once we break down our fears, they're not as fearful as we initially make them.
- Whatever the fear is, it's certain they're smaller than what we perceive them to be initially.
- A baseline of courage, whether it's with travel or whether it's starting a new business or starting a new relationship, require us to not prejudge or not presuppose things.
- In order to experience the fullness of life requires us to get out of our own way long enough so we can experience the joys in store for us.
- Fear comes in all different sizes shapes flavors and colors. When a fear comes up in that voice in our head, say, What if and then answer the What if.
- We are afraid of what we cannot see. Overcome them by initially have someone going with you.
- Movement inspires life. If we're sitting around because we're comfortable that only remains comfortable for so long until we just start to become lethargic. We need movement to stay alive. Even very small steps such as just to get out of our house. First go down the street, go down to the next County or see local things. In order to experience, we have to say, let's go.
- What kind of story are you telling yourself? Are you telling yourself a story that I can't, I shouldn't or if something inside of you says you haven't yet experienced the fullness of life, are you telling yourself a story that I should, I will.
- It doesn't matter your age. It just matters whether or not you really feel like you're on course to live a full life.
- To me adventure is not physical risks but experiences such as may be sitting in a new vineyard in Italy and experiencing a wine they've had in there inventory for 20 years or getting to know the local people and getting to see the cultures.
